PASTOR’S CORNER
Dear Friends in Christ
(I hope and pray that all are dealing well as Hurricane Milton hits our state. Our prayers certainly go out to those who are dealing with the most devasting effects.)
It’s always good to, from time to time, get back to your roots. To review that which is foundational and formational. To re-examine our identity and our identifiers. At the end of each October, we look back and remember our roots as we commemorate the start of the Protestant Reformation. While we call to mind that 95 Thesis posting action of Martin Luther on Oct. 31, 1517, more importantly we survey the tenets of the “new understanding” that the Holy Spirit led Luther to embrace as he took a fresh look at scripture and the traditions of the church.
We need not be militant and insist that he had it all correct. In fact, Luther got some things very wrong that we as a denomination have had to go back to apologize for. We do not follow him wherever he leads. We have one Lord, and it is Jesus, that is the one who we follow.
The roots that we commemorate and cherish are those teachings that draw us closer to our God of love, that give us deeper insight into being disciples of Jesus who taught compassion and radical welcome, and that usher us towards a peace that passes all understanding in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
In preparation for this commemoration, I will be using the sermons of October to explore some of those foundational roots. This past Sunday I spoke of the dichotomy of Law and Gospel. Reminding us that though the law condemns us as sinners who fall short of the glory of God, the good news is that God in Christ reconciles us through perfect mercy and grace.
May God bless all our endeavors as we begin this new program year proclaiming the love, mercy, and grace of God made known through Jesus the Christ. What a privilege to do God’s Work with Our Hands.
Rejoicing in our common mission,
Pastor Mark
News from Heathe DeVaughn
It is wonderful for Jim and I to be back at All Saints. Looking forward to having many ministry opportunities with you. I’m currently taking classes online at United Lutheran Seminary and visiting the Philadelphia or Gettysburg campus as needed. My parents are a priority, and I need to be here to help them.
One area that I’m very passionate about is Praying Parents. After the recent school shooting, it left me concerned that there is a need for parents to double down and pray for their kids. Children have so many distractions and it’s so important to keep our mind and their minds focused on Jesus and His path. “Train a child in the way that they should go and when they are old they will not depart…”
Prov 22:6.
We will be meeting on the 3rd or 4th Thursday (based on where holidays fall) in each month at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall for games (for ages 3+) sponsored by our wonderful Pastor Erson and the Bible study that I will be leading. This is the second year of the program, and it is growing nicely. We have an amazing group of parents that join us from this church and from others and we look forward to more joining. Thanks for helping us spread the word. There are flyers in the office. This month’s meeting will be September 26.
Look forward to seeing everyone around!
Seminarian,
Heather DeVaughn
Give Thanks
The Tamarac Community Center will be preparing baskets for the Thanksgiving Holidays to distribute to their clients in need of assistance. They have been so appreciative of All Saints’ generosity over the years and during this pre-holiday time. They have asked if we could donate items such as cranberry sauce, applesauce, stuffing, canned green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, soups and other non-perishable items to fill those baskets. Tamarac Community Center will include gift cards to purchase meats and dairy items.
Thanks everyone!!

PRESCHOOL NEWS
Happy October! Summer is officially over, and the Pre-School has had a great first month and a half of school. The students have picked up their routine quickly and have been working hard together! We had our first school picture day, and it turned out great!
On October 3rd, the Tamarac Fire Department came to our school to talk with the students about fire safety. They showed the students what they look like with their turn out gear on, the inside of the fire truck and they let each student spray the hose (Check out our Facebook page, All Saints Lutheran Preschool, to see the awesome pictures.)
On October 18th at 6:00 pm, we will have our annual Trunk or Treat in the west parking lot. We invite you to come out and participate with our preschool families. You can decorate your trunk and pass out candy or you can come out and see the cool costumes and socialize with our families.
We still need more students in our preschool, so please don’t forget to mention our award-winning childcare to your families, friends and neighbors! Website: www.aslcpreschool.com.
Don’t forget, children or grandchildren of All Saints Members receive a 10% discount!

Food for Thought in Times of Stress
Only You, Lord, can take whatever loss I experience and fill that empty place with good. Only You can take the burden of my grief and pain and dry my tears.
“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.” Psalm 4:1
Easy Sunday Brunch!
Casserole with Bacon
¼ lb store-bought puff pastry, thawed
8 oz (about 12 slices) bacon, cut crosswise into ½” strips
1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
3 large eggs
½ cup heavy cream
¼ tsp salt
1/8 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 ½ cups grated (4 oz) Gruyere Cheese
Step 1 – preheat oven to 400 degrees. On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry to a 10” square (trim edges). Place pastry into an 8” square baking pan, folding corners to fit. Prick bottom of dough with a fork.
Step 2 – heat a large skillet to medium heat. Add bacon & cook stirring occasionally until pieces start to brown. Add onions & cook stirring until bacon is crisp and onions are lightly browned. With a slotted spoon, transfer to a plate and let cool slightly.
Step 3 – Scatter onion/bacon mixture over pastry. In a small bowl, whisk eggs, cream, salt into pastry shell. Sprinkle cheese over top. Bake until filling is set, and top is golden brown, about 40 minutes. Cut in squares and serve. Yummy!
Ladies, come join us for our monthly meetings on the last Sunday of the month following church services. Coffee and munchies are served.
